Polish Deputy Prime Minister heads to Washington for defense talks

Poland’s deputy prime minister and defence minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, is scheduled to travel to Washington for high-level discussions with senior U.S. defence officials. The agenda includes finalising existing arms contracts and negotiating the creation of a permanent U.S. base in Poland. This visit comes after Warsaw signed a new financing arrangement with the United States that will facilitate further purchases of American military hardware through the State Department’s Foreign Military Financing programme.

Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted the programme as essential for the ongoing modernisation of Poland’s armed forces. Over recent years, Poland has secured multiple multibillion-dollar deals for systems such as Patriot air-defence, F-35 fighter jets and HIMARS rocket launchers. The U.S. sees the financing scheme as both a means to deepen military cooperation with key partners and to boost its defence exports.
