Polish energy officials warn ETS fees jeopardize industry and transition plans
At the PKEE Energy Day 2026 conference, senior executives highlighted that ETS charges are straining Polish companies and could slow the country's energy shift.
During the Energy Day 2026 event organized by the Polish Committee of Electric Energy, PGE vice-president Marcin Laskowski warned that the EU emissions-trading system is imposing a heavy financial burden on Polish industry, threatening competitiveness and the pace of the energy transition. He urged the European Council to adopt reforms that would make emission costs compatible with industrial needs, market competitiveness and investment requirements.
Deputy minister of energy Wojciech Wrochna echoed the concern, describing high electricity prices and ETS fees as key barriers to further decarbonisation, even as Poland recently saw renewable sources surpass coal and reach a 41.6 % share of the power mix. He highlighted ongoing projects such as new renewable capacity, energy storage, offshore wind, nuclear power, and the diversification of gas imports through LNG terminals and the Baltic Pipe. Both speakers stressed that expanding generation, storage, and grid flexibility is essential for the EU’s economic resilience and security.
