Polish fighter jets intercept Russian Il-20 over the Baltic Sea
Polish air force jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 aircraft about 40 km off Poland's coast on Tuesday, the deputy prime minister said.
On Tuesday, Polish fighter jets engaged a Russian Il-20 aircraft near the Baltic Sea, approximately 40 kilometres from the Polish coast. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz reported the event on social media, noting that Russian planes have been regularly operating in the region. He described the latest interception as part of ongoing Russian activity along NATO's eastern border.
The minister also reassured that Poland's airspace is under constant surveillance and that the Polish military stays on alert. Earlier in September, a similar interception of an Il-20 took place north of Ustka, where the aircraft reportedly had its identification systems turned off but did not breach Polish airspace.
