Polish fuel prices capped as government pushes for immediate cuts
Effective 6 October, retail prices for 95 octane gasoline, 98 octane gasoline and diesel are limited to 6.79 zł, 7.66 zł and 7.82 zł per litre respectively, following a presidential decree.
On Thursday evening, President Karol Nawrocki issued a statement addressing record fuel prices and their impact on various sectors, including agriculture and transport. He ordered that, starting 6 October, the maximum retail price for 95 octane gasoline be set at 6.79 zł per litre, for 98 octane at 7.66 zł, and for diesel at 7.82 zł, modestly higher than the caps of 6.73 zł, 7.59 zł and 7.88 zł that applied on 5 October.
The decree ties any revenue generated from the new law to further price reductions. In parallel, state-controlled oil company Orlen announced substantial wholesale price cuts, lowering Eurosuper 95 by 232 zł, Super Plus 98 by 226 zł and Ekodiesel by 337 zł per cubic metre. These adjustments are intended to support the government's goal of delivering immediate relief at fuel stations across the country.
