Polish government plans to scrap annual applications for 800-plus child benefit
The government will eliminate the yearly renewal requirement for the 800-plus child allowance, shifting to automatic extensions.
On Tuesday the cabinet will consider a draft amendment to the law governing the 800-plus child benefit. Prepared by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, the bill would remove the obligation for parents to file a renewal application before every payment period, allowing the Social Insurance Institution to automatically extend entitlements based on previously submitted information. Families would only have to act if their situation changes or when applying for the benefit for the first time, such as after a birth or return from abroad.
The proposal also retains the option to update personal data when circumstances shift. Officials say the change will simplify procedures, ensure continuous payouts, and reduce the program’s administrative expenses. The new rules are intended to take effect with the 2027/2028 benefit cycle, after necessary IT adjustments at ZUS.
Why it matters
It eases bureaucracy for millions of families receiving the 800-plus benefit.
