Polish government unveils 2027 budget with record deficit and debt concerns

The Sejm will hold the first reading of the 2027 budget, projecting revenues of 696.4 billion zł and expenditures of 977.6 billion zł, resulting in a deficit of up to 281.2 billion zł.

The upcoming Sejm session will examine the 2027 fiscal plan, which forecasts state revenues of 696.4 billion zł against outlays of 977.6 billion zł, creating a deficit that must stay below 281.2 billion zł. The proposal expects real GDP to expand by 3 percent and average inflation to settle at 2.8 percent. Allocations include 198.1 billion zł for defense and 274.1 billion zł for health, the latter up by 26.3 billion zł year-on-year.

PiS deputy Zbigniew Kuźmiuk described the budget as a summary of the four-year Tusk administration, emphasizing that borrowing a third of the budget annually could strain finances as debt service costs rise. He also highlighted that the national debt, measured by both EU and constitutional standards, is projected to approach critical thresholds by the end of 2027, potentially prompting rating downgrades. Kuźmiuk suggested the government might be steering the country toward a euro-zone entry as a way to secure external support in a looming fiscal crisis.
