Polish poll shows strong public backing for aiding Baltic states against aggression
A recent IBRiS poll for Radio ZET found that most Poles support helping Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia if Russia attacks them.
IBRiS carried out a CATI telephone poll for Radio ZET between 4 and 5 September 2026, interviewing 1,068 respondents about Poland’s role if Russia were to attack Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia. The results showed a decisive majority in favour of Polish assistance. Former defence minister and ex-vice-premier Mariusz Błaszczak, speaking on Radio ZET, argued that Polish soldiers’ primary duty is to protect Poland, but highlighted the need for robust alliances, especially with the United States, and warned that an attack on the Baltics could implicate Poland directly.
He referenced NATO’s Article 5 without committing to a specific course of action. The poll’s methodology involved standardized computer-assisted interviews to ensure representativeness.
