Polish Prime Minister Tusk vows to bypass presidential opposition over same-sex marriage tax rules

In a recorded statement, Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused the president and key ministers of stubbornly opposing efforts to modernise Polish law, including matters of human dignity. He announced that the finance ministry, led by Andrzej Domański, has signed a general tax interpretation that extends the same tax rights and duties to couples whose same-sex marriages were transcribed abroad. Tusk framed the change as a matter of equal dignity rather than mere financial benefit.

The president’s office, represented by Paweł Szefernaker, responded by labeling the interpretation unconstitutional and a de facto expansion of marriage rights without constitutional amendment. Tusk pledged to continue advancing the reform despite the presidential veto, emphasizing a legal pathway to overcome the blockage.
