Polish PSL pushes for two-term limits on MPs and senators
PSL leader Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the party will seek a constitutional amendment to cap parliamentary service at two terms if its bill fails in the Sejm or presidential approval.
At the PSL’s central council session in Warsaw, party president Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz criticized the 2018 legislation that limited local officials to two terms, calling it unconstitutional and harmful to democratic choice. He reminded delegates that PSL had previously tried to repeal that restriction in 2025. Facing possible rejection of its current bill in the Sejm or by the president, the party will now propose a constitutional amendment to impose a two-term cap on Sejm deputies and Senate senators.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said the party will vote in favor of the amendment and will lobby the president for signature. He noted that while the change would require a constitutional revision, it is within reach. The move reflects PSL’s broader effort to reform political tenure rules across all levels of government.
Why it matters
