Polish suspects arrested in Brandenburg cattle theft after cross-border investigation
Police have taken two Polish men into custody, accusing them of stealing more than 200 cattle in Brandenburg and transporting the livestock to Poland.
Authorities in Brandenburg arrested two Polish nationals, 46 and 41 years old, after a coordinated effort with Polish law-enforcement agencies. The men are accused of stealing over 200 cattle and loading them onto transport trucks between March and May, then moving the herd across the border where the animals may have been re-registered. The investigation, led by the “Weide” task force, resulted in raids on several sites in the western Polish voivodeship of Lebus, uncovering additional cattle and forensic material.
German and Polish veterinary officials collected hair samples to match the animals with German databases. Both detainees are now held in pre-trial custody, while police emphasize the economic damage such thefts cause to farmers.
Why it matters
Cross-border cattle theft threatens farmers' livelihoods and shows the need for international police cooperation.
