Poll data shows Republicans' support for Trump on Iran has sharply declined

Harry Enten, a data analyst, pointed to a significant erosion in Republican backing for Donald Trump’s approach to Iran, citing one outlet/Pew survey that shows confidence dropping from 53% in July 2024 to 29% now. In a conversation with host John Berman, Enten described the shift as a "giant fall" and suggested that promises made by Trump were perceived as unkept. He added that the trend extends beyond the president to Republican lawmakers, who have lost a sizable edge on war, conflict, and terrorism questions that once gave the party an 18-point lead.

This reversal has turned a historical Republican strength into a liability on a core issue. Enten concluded that many Republicans would prefer Trump to stay silent on the Iran topic.
