Poll shows growing support for staying in Canada as Alberta vote approaches
A Leger poll conducted early October finds 70% of Albertans now favor remaining a province of Canada, up from August, while voter enthusiasm is also rising.
Leger’s early-October poll of 1,001 Albertans indicates that support for remaining in Canada has risen to 70%, while backing for a separation referendum sits at 22% and 7% remain undecided. Voter motivation appears stronger, with 77% rating their likelihood of voting at eight or higher, compared with 68% in August. Among “remain” supporters, 91% expressed high certainty about their stance, versus 71% of those favoring separation.
Andrew Enns of Leger said the data suggest the pro-Canada campaign’s messaging is resonating, and Thomas Lukaszuk of Forever Canadian praised the movement’s outreach, including a “unity bus” that has traveled roughly 40,000 kilometres. The poll also revealed broader dissatisfaction with the province’s direction and highlighted divisions within the United Conservative Party, as well as growing social tension over the issue, especially among younger adults.
