Poll shows majority of Democratic voters would welcome a military takeover of Trump
A poll of 683 Democratic voters found that 59% would react positively to a headline announcing a military coup that removed Donald Trump from power.
Liberal Currents published a poll of 683 Democratic voters that measured emotional reactions to hypothetical headlines about Donald Trump. Respondents were asked how they would feel if Trump were assassinated at a rally, with 31% answering positively and 43% negatively. A separate headline described a group of U.S. military leaders removing Trump and taking control of the country; 59% said they would feel positive, and 43% very positive.
The poll showed the highest approval for a coup among self-identified liberals (66% positive) and progressives/socialists (56% positive). Those scoring above the median on trust in government and other institutions were also more favorable toward the coup scenario. The study, which used text-message and online panels and carries a 3.75-point margin of error, has been cited by conservative commentators as evidence of Democratic support for a coup, though the question measured only a feeling about a headline, not a willingness to act.
