Poll Shows Ohio Senate Contest Between Husted and Brown Nearly Tied
A recent ActiVote poll places appointed Senator Jon Husted just ahead of former Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s 2026 Senate race, with a margin of 0.4 points.
ActiVote’s latest poll of likely Ohio voters finds appointed Senator Jon Husted edging former Senator Sherrod Brown by a razor-thin 0.4 points, 50.2% to 49.8%, inside a 4.9-point error margin. Fielded between September 26 and October 18, the survey highlights that the contest is decided by centrist voters, where Husted leads 56% to 44%. Demographic breakdown shows Husted ahead among rural residents, men, whites, and those with a high-school education, while Brown leads suburban and urban voters, women, Black voters, the youngest and oldest cohorts, and college graduates.
A Rasmussen Report released on October 14 similarly places Husted ahead, marking a shift from earlier polls that showed Brown in the lead. The race follows Brown’s attempt to win back the seat lost to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024, and Husted’s appointment by Governor Mike DeWine after JD Vance became vice president, with President Donald Trump endorsing Husted.
Why it matters
The tight race could determine which party controls a pivotal Senate seat in a swing state.
