Polls show Republican division over Trump family's foreign crypto earnings

Recent surveys reveal that while a majority of Americans oppose President Trump’s personal crypto business, Republicans are split on the issue.

New polling data indicates that more than six in ten Americans disapprove of President Trump’s personal stake in the cryptocurrency sector, yet Republican respondents remain divided, with 45% approving and 29% opposing. The surveys also show a similar split on the acceptability of the Trump family receiving foreign payments while the president is in office. Trump's sons’ crypto venture, World Liberty Financial, reported roughly $1.4 billion in revenue last year, boosted by a $260 million stake sold to a United Arab Emirates royal.

Observers such as former White House ethics lawyer Richard Painter warn that such foreign-linked earnings could compromise policy decisions, citing the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause. The administration maintains that neither the president nor his relatives have engaged in conflicts of interest, but Democrats are now pressing the issue more aggressively than during the Biden era.

Why it matters

The polls highlight growing public concern that a president’s family business ties could affect U.S. policy decisions.
