Pope Francis' private diary to be published worldwide on Nov. 24
A collection of Pope Francis' personal notes spanning more than three decades will be released internationally on Nov. 24.
Vatican officials revealed that Pope Francis' private diary, a compilation of his personal reflections from Dec. 20, 1992, to Aug. 18, 2024, will be issued on Nov. 24 in 94 nations. The 144-page work, called The Spiritual Diary Of Pope Francis, was introduced by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernandez, a longtime aide to the Argentine-born pontiff. It will be printed in Italian by Libreria Editrice Vaticana, in Spanish, English and Portuguese by Penguin Random House, and in French by Albin Michel, which will release its edition on Nov. 25.
Albin Michel president Gilles Haeri described the manuscript as highly personal, echoing the tone of the pope’s earlier autobiography, Hope. The Vatican called the text exceptionally valuable for understanding the personality of the first Latin American pope, who led the Church from March 13, 2013, until his death on Apr. 21, 2025.
Why it matters
The diary offers unprecedented insight into the thoughts and leadership of a globally influential religious figure.
