Porsche unveils Mission S, a new mid-engine supercar positioned above the 911
Porsche presented the Mission S concept in New York, a mid-engine sports car that will sit above the 911 in its lineup and be produced in volume.
At a New York showcase, Porsche revealed the Mission S concept, a mid-engine supercar designed to sit above the 911 in the brand’s hierarchy and be built as a standard production model. The move aligns with the company's "Sportwagenschmiede ’35" roadmap, which aims to lift profit margins back into double-digit territory by 2035 by emphasizing high-margin, highly customizable vehicles. Chairman Michael Leiters highlighted the focus on "value over volume" and the expectation of higher selling prices.
The strategy also involves a significant restructuring effort, including the planned layoff of 9,000 workers as part of a wider Volkswagen Group headcount reduction. Porsche also hinted at future additions such as an electric 718 Boxster/Cayman, a sub-Macan SUV slated for 2028, and new models in the upper-priced segments alongside the Cayenne and Panamera.
Why it matters
The new model shows Porsche’s shift toward high-margin, volume-driven growth amid a recent profit slump.
