Portland Thorns midfielder Olivia Moultrie sidelined for season with ACL tear

Portland Thorns announced that 20-year-old midfielder Olivia Moultrie will miss the rest of the NWSL season after tearing her ACL in training.

Olivia Moultrie, a 20-year-old midfielder for the Portland Thorns and a regular U.S. women’s national team call-up, suffered a right-knee ACL tear during a training drill last week, prompting the club to move her to the season-ending injury reserve. The injury ends her participation in the NWSL campaign, where she has logged five goals and five assists, ranking fourth in league assists. Moultrie posted a heartfelt message on social media, describing the setback as devastating but affirming her intent to come back better.

Thorns president Jeff Agoos pledged the team’s complete resources for her recovery. The loss also removes her from the upcoming Concacaf W Championship, a key qualifier for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Why it matters

Moultrie's injury removes a top midfielder from her club and the national team ahead of a crucial qualifying tournament.
