Portugal adds João Almeida to 18-rider squad for Montreal Road World Championships

João Almeida was named to Portugal's 18-cyclist roster for the road world championships in Montreal, joining teammates such as Afonso Eulálio and Nelson Oliveira.

Portugal's national cycling team for the upcoming road world championships in Montreal will field 18 riders, with João Almeida added at the last moment after his name was absent from the UCI technical list. Selector Valter Sousa explained that the demanding distance and cumulative fatigue of the Montreal course required riders who can handle varied race situations. The elite men's lineup includes Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain-Victorious), Nelson Oliveira (Movistar), António Morgado and Ivo Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), and Tiago Antunes (Efapel).

Junior riders Gonçalo Costa and Rodrigo Jesus will contest a time trial two days before the 134-kilometre elite race, while Raquel Dias will ride the under-23 women's event. The women's elite squad features Beatriz Roxo, Raquel Queirós and Daniela Campos, with team selector Daniela Pereira emphasizing a strategy to protect key riders for the decisive phase.
