Portugal launches emergency aid for farmers hit by storms Kristin, Leonardo and Marta

The Ministry of Agriculture announced that farmers affected by the recent storms can apply for special assistance through the Agricultural Reserve between 7 and 30 October.

Portugal's Ministry of Agriculture revealed an emergency assistance program for farmers whose earnings suffered after the storms Kristin, Leonardo and Marta earlier this year. The scheme, funded from the Agricultural Reserve, is open for applications from 7 to 30 October and must be filed through the IFAP online portal. It covers producers of outdoor annual crops, greenhouse vegetables, pork operations and dairy herds, provided they meet specific eligibility requirements.

Payments will be made based on criteria set by the ministry. The storms caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure in the Centro, Lisbon, Vale do Tejo and Alentejo regions.

Why it matters

The aid helps sustain Portugal's agricultural sector after severe weather damage.
