Portugal ranks among EU’s top performers in Q2 employment growth

Eurostat data show Portugal posted the third-largest year-on-year increase in employment among EU members in the second quarter, and the strongest quarterly rise within the bloc.

Eurostat released figures indicating that Portugal achieved the third-highest year-on-year growth in its employment rate during the second quarter, trailing only Malta and Spain among EU members. In the quarter-to-quarter comparison, Portugal led the EU with the most pronounced increase. Across the euro area, employment rose modestly, while the broader EU showed a slight upward trend.

Countries such as Malta, Spain and Portugal posted the strongest annual gains, whereas Romania, Finland and Bulgaria experienced notable drops. In the three-month comparison, Portugal again topped the list, followed by Malta and the Czech Republic, while Finland, Greece, Bulgaria, Poland and Romania recorded the biggest falls.
