Portugal's Prime Minister calls the nation a mature democracy with a skilled judiciary

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said Portugal is a mature democracy with a highly qualified justice system during the inauguration of the new courthouse in Beja.

At the ceremony launching the new Palace of Justice in Beja, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro praised Portugal as a mature democracy supported by a well-trained judiciary. He noted that public discourse often claims the justice system is in crisis, but said this perception is tied to the system itself and is unlikely to vanish. Montenegro pointed out that while some cases attract media attention and create a sense of blockage, the overall system functions and is improving.

He highlighted the modern facilities of the new courthouse, which includes multiple courtrooms and spaces for videoconferencing and training. The prime minister concluded that the justice system, though not perfect, delivers results and continues to serve the public.
