Portugal tops EU for fastest house-price growth in Q2 2026
Eurostat data shows Portugal recorded the sharpest rise in residential prices among EU members in the second quarter of 2026.
According to Eurostat, Portugal's housing market outpaced all other EU countries during the second quarter of 2026, registering a markedly higher increase than the euro-area average. By contrast, price growth across the broader euro zone and the European Union remained modest. Earlier in the year, the first quarter saw modest gains of around four percent in the euro area and slightly higher in the EU overall. The report also notes that a minority of EU states experienced a year-on-year decline in house prices during the same period.
Why it matters
Portugal's rapid house-price rise signals divergent housing market pressures across the EU, affecting affordability and policy decisions.
