Potential Nobel Chemistry Laureates Highlighted by Clarivate Ahead of Academy Announcement

Clarivate has identified a shortlist of scientists who may receive this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry, including pioneers of self-assembled monolayers and other innovators.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is set to reveal the winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, with the announcement expected after 11:45 a.m. Clarivate, which ranks likely laureates based on citation counts, has highlighted a trio—David L Allara, Ralph G Nuzzo and Jacob Sagiv—for their foundational research on self-assembled monolayers, a technology that underpins modern nanotech applications. The list also features British scientists Shankar Balasubramanian and David Klenerman, known for accelerating DNA sequencing, as well as Harry B Gray and Jay R Winkler, whose work on electron transfer in proteins informs biosensor development.

Additional candidates Richmond Sarpong, Mark Levin and Bill Mirandi are recognized for advances in molecular skeleton editing, crucial for drug discovery. The Academy’s decision will be made public early this afternoon.
