Power bank ignites on KLM flight, aircraft turns back to Amsterdam

A power bank aboard a KLM Boeing 777 ignited while the plane was cruising over the Atlantic Ocean, prompting the crew to extinguish the fire and abort the flight to Curaçao. The pilot returned the aircraft to Schiphol, where it landed after an 11‑hour round‑trip. All 322 passengers were provided hotel accommodation and re‑scheduled on other flights the following morning. The passenger carrying the battery sustained only minor injuries. KLM reiterated its policy that passengers may bring up to two power banks, subject to capacity limits, but may not use or charge them during flight.
