PP of Cádiz demands Algeciras mayor resign over new sexual assault accusations
The Partido Popular in Cádiz has called on mayor José Ignacio Landaluce to step down immediately after two party members reported alleged sexual assaults against him.
Two PP members have lodged accusations of sexual assault against Algeciras mayor José Ignacio Landaluce, prompting the provincial PP to demand his immediate resignation. The party’s statement instructed its city councillors to cease supporting the mayor, who now serves as an independent after leaving the PP. It further warned that any councillors who maintain their backing will be subject to internal sanctions. A petition signed by twelve of the fifteen governing councillors was recorded on the municipal portal, formally requesting Landaluce’s departure.
Party leader Bruno García briefed the Algeciras PP group on the situation and reiterated the call for resignation. While the PP said it respects the presumption of innocence, it claims the testimonies have eroded confidence in the mayor’s leadership.
Why it matters
The demand highlights internal party pressure and potential instability in Algeciras' municipal government.
