PP vows CPI-linked pension boosts and a new sustainable scheme for younger workers
Alberto Núñez Feijóo pledged that the Partido Popular will index current pensions to inflation and devise a viable pension model for future retirees.
At a pre-election event in Huesca, Alberto Núñez Feijóo announced that the Partido Popular will both maintain CPI-based increases for current pensions and develop a new, financially sound pension framework for younger workers, labeling the present system as unsustainable. He presented the proposal as part of a broader agenda of healthy economic growth, rejecting higher public spending or massive tax hikes and urging cuts to superfluous expenditures.
Party spokesperson Ester Muñoz highlighted demographic challenges, warning that financing high pensions with precarious jobs could trigger a collapse. The PP has a voting record supporting CPI-linked pension adjustments in February 2025 and February 2026. Critics note earlier reforms added contributions without guaranteeing higher individual benefits. Feijóo pledged to fulfill both commitments before the 29-N elections.
Why it matters
The plan could reshape Spain's pension system and affect millions of retirees and future workers.
