Prague Mayors Continue Coalition Talks, Eye Possible Alliance with Pirates
Prague's mayoral parties are negotiating a coalition, with STAN and SPOLU seeking a majority and considering adding the Pirates as a partner.
In Prague's 65-member city council, a coalition controlling at least 34 seats is needed to govern. STAN and SPOLU together can reach that number, making a two-party alliance their favored option. Nevertheless, STAN chairman Petr Hlaváček indicated a desire to attract additional support, stating the goal of representing as many voters as possible and not limiting the coalition to specific groups.
He suggested that while the primary plan is a STAN-SPOLU partnership, a third party could be invited, with the Pirates being the likely candidate. On the upcoming Monday, the Pirates are expected to receive a formal proposal for collaboration, after which they will decide whether to join. The prospective coalition aims to sign its agreement in November, allowing time to embed specific projects into the city’s program before the upcoming budget vote for the next fiscal year.
Why it matters
The coalition outcome will shape Prague's governance and budget decisions for the coming year.
