Prashant Kishor criticises JD(U) leader for downplaying Jamui teen harassment case

A teenage girl and her male companion were allegedly harassed by a group in Jamui on September 19, an event captured on video that later spread online. Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor rebuked JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha for labeling the case an “isolated incident,” arguing that Bihar has seen multiple similar assaults, including a NEET student attack and a hotel incident in Begusarai. Kishor demanded clarification on what the administration deems a serious crime.

Police traced the victims through a vehicle number in the clip, filed an FIR under the POCSO Act, and arrested three men, while a special investigation team was set up. Sports minister Shreyasi Singh condemned the incident, rejecting any justification under moral policing and urging swift prosecution. The controversy has intensified scrutiny of women’s safety and law-and-order conditions in the state.
