Pregnant Ministry of Defence employee found dead; husband and in-laws charged with suicide abetment
A 30-year-old pregnant assistant section officer of the Ministry of Defence was discovered dead in Dwarka, Delhi, and police have filed cruelty and abetment of suicide charges against her husband and his family.
Nazia Khanam, a 30-year-old assistant section officer with the Ministry of Defence, was discovered dead in her home in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka area on Friday. She was three months pregnant and had married Mohammad Azam Ali Khan, a supply-chain manager from Gurgaon, on April 11. Police received a suicide-related call at Sector 23 police station around 4.21 pm, arrived, and took the body to DDU Hospital’s mortuary.
According to senior officers, after a hospital visit the couple argued, after which she locked herself and her husband in separate rooms before ending her life. Her parents later filed a complaint alleging the husband’s physical assault and mental harassment, leading to charges of cruelty and abetment of suicide under sections 85 and 108 of the BNS, with a dowry-death provision also being sought. The husband remains absconding, and the investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances.
