Premier League to Release Full Referee and VAR Decision Reports to Fans

The Premier League will publish the complete judgments of its Key Match Incidents Panel on referee and VAR calls for the first time this season.

For the inaugural time this season, the Premier League will make public the complete judgments produced by the Key Match Incidents Panel on every significant referee and VAR ruling. The panel, comprising three former players and coaches, a Premier League representative and a PGMO delegate, meets weekly to evaluate each incident and vote on its correctness. Selected direct quotes from officials will be posted on the league’s Match Centre X feed, website and app, replacing previous generic summaries.

RefCam will now capture audio of on-field referee talks with players, aired once or twice per round, while live VAR dialogues remain prohibited by IFAB. The league hopes the move will boost transparency while continuing discussions with IFAB about broader VAR communication. Past panel reports, showed a decline in VAR errors over recent seasons, and the findings also inform referees’ performance-related pay.

Why it matters

Fans gain clearer insight into how match-official decisions are judged, enhancing trust in the league’s officiating.
