President Baka nominates Dr. Szathmáry Zoltán as Hungary's next chief prosecutor

President Baka András formally proposed Dr. Szathmáry Zoltán as the next chief prosecutor, citing a thorough assessment of a wide pool of candidates. The president’s recommendation will be considered by the National Assembly, which is required to elect the chief prosecutor by a two-thirds majority for a nine-year term. The former chief prosecutor, Nagy Gábor Bálint, resigned after Polt Péter left the post to become president of the Constitutional Court, and the office has since been led by his deputy, István Lajtár. Baka indicated he will speak on the nomination during the parliament’s Monday session. The selection process follows constitutional obligations and aims to place a qualified individual at the helm of the prosecutorial system.
