President Baka returns draft law restoring mandatory medical chamber membership

President András Baka sent back to parliament the draft law that would reinstate compulsory membership in Hungary's medical chambers, citing concerns over limiting the election of chamber officials.

President András Baka returned the amendment on professional chambers in the health sector to the National Assembly, stating his support for re-establishing compulsory membership but rejecting the clause that would limit the freedom of electing chamber officials. He argued that autonomy is better protected when election rules are left to each chamber's own statutes. Baka emphasized that any mandatory return to the Hungarian Medical Chamber must be implemented with the least possible administrative burden, so physicians without current membership do not lose their right to practice.

He also requested clearer language for temporary provisions governing ethical processes. The draft, previously approved by parliament, seeks to strengthen professional self-government and patient-centered care.
