President Lee declares Baeksu town a special disaster zone for aid

Heavy rainfall that battered southwestern Yeonggwang County from late August to early September prompted President Lee Jae Myung to label the town of Baeksu a special disaster zone. This classification makes the community eligible for a range of government supports, including funds for post-disaster reconstruction, postponed tax obligations, and discounted utility charges. The presidential office announced that officials will expedite the preparation of rebuilding plans so affected families can resume ordinary activities as soon as possible.

The move was communicated by spokesperson Kang Yu-jung on Friday. The designation aims to alleviate the economic strain on residents and accelerate recovery in the flood-hit area.
