President Lee Jae Myung confirms Kim Sung-soo as new Supreme Court justice
President Lee Jae Myung approved Kim Sung-soo's appointment to the Supreme Court after the National Assembly voted overwhelmingly for his confirmation.
On Friday, President Lee Jae Myung signed off on the nomination of Kim Sung-soo to become a justice of the Supreme Court. The decision came a day after the National Assembly passed a confirmation motion with a 227-28 margin, after holding a hearing earlier in the week. Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae had earlier put forward Kim as the replacement for former justice Lee Heung-ku.
Kim's appointment will be the inaugural Supreme Court justice selected during the Lee administration, which began last year. The approval process reflects coordination between the executive and legislative branches. The new justice is expected to assume duties shortly after the formal appointment.
