President Lee Jae Myung's approval climbs to 37.3% after two-week dip

President Lee Jae Myung's approval rose to 37.3% after two weeks of decline, according to a Realmeter poll of 2,520 adults.

A Realmeter poll of 2,520 adults nationwide, carried out from last Monday to Friday, indicates President Lee Jae Myung’s approval rating rebounded to 37.3%, a 2.1-point increase from the previous week, while negative assessments fell to 60.4%. The pollster linked the rise to Lee’s policies aimed at improving housing and employment conditions and to government actions against violent crime following a stabbing incident in Incheon, west of Seoul.

However, a sharp decline in the stock market later in the week appears to have exerted downward pressure on his rating. In a related survey of 1,005 adults conducted Thursday-Friday, support for the ruling Democratic Party rose modestly to 36.2%, whereas backing for the opposition People Power Party slipped to 40.9%. Both surveys carry margins of error of 2 and 3.1 percentage points respectively at a 95% confidence level and were commissioned by Asia Business Daily.

Why it matters

The shift reflects changing public sentiment toward South Korea's president and the ruling party amid policy moves and market volatility.
