President Lee Jae Myung received a briefing on a series of cyber-attacks that have led to personal information leaks at major South Korean financial institutions. He ordered that investigators treat the matter with utmost seriousness and leave no stone unturned in finding solutions. Shinhan Bank confirmed that roughly 25,000 customers' names, phone numbers and income details were exposed, attributing the breach to hackers using advanced AI tools.
Hana Bank reported the leak of data belonging to 89 customers, while Woori Bank and NH Nonghyup Bank successfully blocked unauthorized access, preventing any data loss. Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eog-weon and Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Chan-jin will hold an emergency meeting with the banks' leaders to coordinate a response. The president’s spokesperson, Kang Yu-jung, emphasized the need for swift and decisive measures to protect consumer privacy.
