President Lee pledges more direct outreach as he questions his own distance from voters

President Lee Jae Myung said he will boost his use of social media and hold more informal meetings to bridge a perceived gap with the public.

President Lee Jae Myung argued that his heavy presence on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is essential for maintaining a direct line to the electorate and promised to broaden both digital and in-person engagement. Speaking at an impromptu press-center meeting, he reflected on perceived detachment from everyday concerns and acknowledged flaws in the rollout of reforms such as real-estate tax adjustments. Lee indicated the administration might temper the speed of its agenda while still pursuing core policies.

He dismissed speculation that his appeal for a “structural majority” signals a political realignment, insisting it simply seeks support from centrists and reasonable conservatives. The president also highlighted ongoing difficulties in filling key posts, including the national police commissioner, the justice minister and the head of the National Tax Service, attributing the shortage to disruptions following the 2025 martial-law episode.
