President Mattarella grants three pardons, including jeweler who killed two robbers

President Sergio Mattarella signed three clemency decrees, reducing sentences for three inmates, one of whom is jeweler Guido Gianni, convicted of double murder during a robbery.

President Sergio Mattarella exercised his constitutional power to grant three individual pardons, each following a positive opinion from the Justice Ministry and the relevant judicial bodies. The first pardon applies to A. A., a 1972-born offender serving a seven-year term for drug-related crimes; his remaining five-year-plus sentence was reduced because of grave, irreversible health problems. The second decree concerns Guido Gianni, a 1960-born jeweler convicted of double homicide and attempted homicide during a 2008 robbery at his shop; a partial pardon erased three years and two months of his term, acknowledging the five years and three months already served.

The third clemency benefits G. B., born in 1981, sentenced to ten years for drug offenses committed between 2002 and 2009; a reduction of one year and nine months reflects his demonstrated social reintegration and the health condition of his minor daughter. All three reductions leave the inmates with residual sentences under four years, allowing possible conversion to a supervised release program.
