President Murmu Highlights Development, Security and Unity Ahead of 80th Independence Day

President Droupadi Murmu delivered a national address on the night before the 80th Independence Day, celebrating the country's development and inclusive poverty-reduction achievements. She underscored the role of citizens across sectors, from the armed forces and Central Armed Police Forces to sanitation staff and overseas Indians, in nation-building. Citing Operation Sindoor, she affirmed India's capacity for precision strikes against terror networks and warned that supporters of terrorism will be held accountable.

Murmu recalled historic figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Dr B R Ambedkar and Sardar Patel, linking their legacies to current goals of a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047 and a digital economy handling half of the world's real-time transactions. She also mentioned the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as a step for national interest and highlighted food-security measures reaching over 80 crore beneficiaries.
