President Murmu highlights Gandhi's peace message as wars rage worldwide

On the eve of Mahatma Gandhi's 157th birthday, President Droupadi Murmu issued a statement honoring his legacy and emphasizing the continued importance of his peace and non-violence principles. She observed that an atmosphere of war and conflict persists across numerous parts of the world, affecting all nations. Murmu connected Gandhi's message to India's goal of becoming a developed and inclusive country by 2047, highlighting values of empathy and inclusion.

She referenced Gandhi's concept of "Sarvodaya"—the welfare of all—as a guiding vision. The president called on citizens to reaffirm their commitment to building an empowered, self-reliant nation through ethical behavior and active participation. The message also recalled Gandhi's birth in Porbandar, Gujarat, on October 2, 1869. Murmu concluded by urging collective effort toward an empowered and developed India.
