President Petr Pavel to champion Czech bid for UN Security Council seat
President Petr Pavel announced that Czechia will pursue a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2032-33 term during his upcoming trip to New York.
Petr Pavel said Czechia intends to run for a two-year non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council covering 2032-33. He will address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday and will meet bilaterally with nations whose support could be decisive. The country last held a seat in 1994-95 and was unsuccessful in a 2007 candidacy against Croatia. Securing the required two-thirds majority of the 193-member Assembly will be essential.
