President Prabowo reviews Kalimantan forest fire response in video-link cabinet meeting

President Prabowo convened a focused cabinet meeting by video conference from Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to assess the status of forest and land fires in Indonesia’s Kalimantan region and Sumatra. He specifically requested an up-to-date briefing from the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasures (BNPB), which was delivered by its head Suharyanto, who indicated that roughly 209.78 hectares were still being fought by field teams.

The president was accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who also conveyed the president’s request. The meeting included a report from the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) chief Teuku Faisal Fathani, outlining ongoing large-scale weather-modification operations intended to aid fire suppression until the rainy season returns to normal. Officials emphasized daily monitoring and a commitment to increase the area extinguished each day. The session reflects the government’s continued focus on mitigating the environmental and health impacts of the fires.
