President Prabowo Subianto Expected at TNI's Low-Key 81st Anniversary Parade
President Prabowo Subianto is slated to attend the Indonesian Armed Forces' 81st anniversary ceremony in East Jakarta, which will feature only a simple presidential inspection parade.
Indonesia's National Armed Forces will commemorate their 81st anniversary on Monday, October 5, at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto is expected to take part, after a preliminary rehearsal, though his presence will hinge on other commitments, according to Brigadier General Chandra Adibrata, head of the Mental Guidance and Chaplaincy Center. The ceremony has been scaled back to a simple presidential inspection parade, with no additional demonstrations or public festivities.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto explained that the event was relocated from the National Monument square to the headquarters to keep the focus internal. While the armed forces will invite students from several schools, larger celebrations were scrapped because many soldiers remain engaged in relief work in Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan.
Why it matters
The event shows the president's support for the military while reflecting Indonesia's focus on disaster relief over public displays.
