President proposes new cost-sharing model for 2027 Hajj pilgrimage

During a session at the Presidential Palace, President Prabowo Subianto urged a revision of the cost structure for the 2027 Hajj, seeking a more equitable split between pilgrim-paid travel expenses and subsidies sourced from the returns on the Hajj fund. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf reported that the ministry’s calculations had been presented to the President and to Commission VIII of the DPR, and that geopolitical shifts in the Middle East necessitate adjustments to several cost components.

The ministry will now develop a new formula that balances direct payments with fund yields. Additionally, President Prabowo praised recent steps to improve governance and ordered a crackdown on cartels and fraudulent actors within the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem. Deputy Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak also attended, and the meeting lasted about two hours, also touching on planned amendments to the Hajj Financial Management Law.
