President Trump to ride in armored vehicle for honorary lap as IndyCar Freedom 250 races around National Mall

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix, a 147‑lap IndyCar race on a 1.7‑mile street circuit that circles the National Mall and passes the White House, ran on Saturday and Sunday. Drivers will reach speeds near 200 mph, and crews welded more than 200 manhole covers to protect the track. President Trump is scheduled to ride in his armored limousine, dubbed “The Beast,” and hoist the green flag to start the race.

A wide range of sponsors—including the Air National Guard, Amazon, Boeing, Chevrolet, Delta, Honda, Metro, Shell, Robinhood, Splenda, United Airlines and Verizon—provided financial support, and spectators received free tickets through a lottery system. Organizers say the event was enabled by an executive order signed by President Trump and anticipate large daily crowds.
