Priest from Parpanița parish arrested for sexual abuse and barred from ministry

A priest serving the Parpanița parish in Negrești was detained on sexual abuse charges and immediately suspended from all liturgical duties by the Huși Diocese.

The priest of the Parpanița parish in Negrești was taken into preventive custody following allegations of sexual misconduct with a 13-year-old girl in June 2026 and a 15-year-old girl between December 2023 and August 2026. In reaction, the Huși Diocese promptly removed him from all liturgical functions, stating he may no longer officiate any religious services. The diocese’s spokesperson, Cosmin Gubernat, said the accusations are of grave moral seriousness and that additional canonical sanctions will be considered as the criminal probe advances.

He also conveyed the church’s full compassion for the victims and a clear separation from such behavior. The priest had previously been known for leading charitable projects for vulnerable populations, including a centre for at-risk children.
