Priest urges Irish society to confront fear after teen hit-and-run death

Bryan Lowe, a 17-year-old sixth-year student from St Munchin’s College, died after being struck and dragged by a vehicle in Cottage Cross, Clonlara, on 4 September. At his funeral, Fr Richard Davern told the assembled crowd that many Irish parents live in fear of the world their children will inherit, urging a societal self-examination. He asked the media to reflect on the moral state of the nation.
A guard of honour was provided by local motorcycle clubs and students from the college, while a local singer performed a tribute. Gardaí are pursuing a line of inquiry that includes a silver/gold Skoda Octavia, registration 05-C-5982, which was recovered partially burned. The investigation remains ongoing.
