Prime Minister Anwar calls for tighter agency cooperation to curb price gouging
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ordered stronger coordination among government agencies to better enforce price controls on essential goods and stop profiteering.
At a National Cost of Living Action Council (NACCOL) meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim instructed that coordination between control agencies be intensified to enhance enforcement of essential-goods pricing and combat profiteering nationwide. He used the session to assess the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living's recent enforcement activities and to discuss immediate actions aimed at easing the cost-of-living pressure under the forthcoming 2027 Budget.
Anwar stressed that the government will continue to track global geopolitical developments that may impact the availability and cost of basic items, ensuring swift responses to any emerging threats to consumers. The directive reflects the administration's broader strategy to protect households from price spikes.
