Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to be questioned as witness in corruption probe

Ilie Bolojan is slated to appear before the Iași anti-corruption office as a witness in a case involving alleged bribery for a meeting with the premier.

According to court sources, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will be called to the DNA Iași shortly to serve as a witness in a corruption case. The dossier targets former PNL Vaslui president Mihai Barbu and entrepreneur Fănel Bogos, who is the administrator of Vanbet SRL, for alleged abuse of influence to secure financial gains. Prosecutors claim Barbu used his political authority to secure a meeting between Bogos and high-level state officials, as well as to exert pressure on the director of the regional veterinary-sanitary authority in Vaslui.

Cristina Trăilă, deputy secretary-general of the Government, is also accused of assisting Barbu in attempts to replace that director with a candidate favoured by Bogos. The investigation originated from a whistle-blower within the DSVSA Vaslui who reported serious irregularities at Bogos' farms, prompting the alleged network of influence to reach senior officials and the premier’s office.
